How to Make Play Dough2 Tbsp. oil
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water
Food coloring
On medium heat, heat 2 tablespoons oil in saucepan. Add other ingredients to heated oil. Cook for 2 minutes. Stir constantly. Drop the ball of dough on waxed paper or foil. Cool dough enough to handle.
Optional: Add a drop of peppermint or wintergreen. Knead the dough. Color, as desired, with food coloring.
Best Bubble Brew1 cup Joy liquid dishwashing detergent
2 cups warm water
2 to 4 tbsp. glycerine (found at drugstore)
1 tsp. sugar
Bubble makers (cookie cutters, straws, funnels, plastic coat hangers)
Gently stir all ingredients together in a large container. Dip bubble makers into brew. Either blow through them or wave them in the air. Store bubble brew in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid.
Finger Paints3 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 cups cold water
Food coloring
Soap flakes or liquid dish washing detergent
Muffin tin or 4 to 5 small cups
Freezer paper
Mix sugar and cornstarch together in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add water and continue stirring until the mixture is thick. Remove from heat. Divide the mixture up into 4 or 5 portions, spooning them into muffin tin or small cups. Add a drop or two of food coloring (a different color for each cup) and a pinch of soap flakes or a drop of detergent to each portion. Stir and cool. Store leftover paints in an airtight container.
Note: When painting, use the shiny side of the freezer paper.
Homemade Face Paint1 tsp. corn starch
1/2 tsp. cold cream
1/2 tsp. water
Food coloring (variety of colors)
Small containers (clean and dry, one for each color paint)
Small paintbrush
Stir corn starch and cold cream until well blended. Add water and stir. Add food coloring. Experiment by mixing colors to create new colors. Paint designs on faces with a small paintbrush. Remove paints from face with soap and water. Store paint in an airtight container.
